On Tuesday, Nov. 18, 25 Brockton High School student-athletes who take part in the student-athlete mentorship group made a special visit to the Hancock School to spend time with and get to know students in the Hancock community.
Twenty-five student-athletes visited 12 classrooms ranging from grades Kâ5, assisting teachers with activities such as read-alouds, crafts, academic centers, supervising recess, math support, and Q&A sessions about high school and their futures â just to name a few.
The goal of the mentorship program is to help student-athletes stay committed to excellence on and off the field while supporting one another in citizenship, academics, and personal growth â including building positive connections with the youth in our community.
"My fifth-grade students were awe inspired by them," said one Hancock teacher. "It was so incredible for the BHS kids to showcase their talents and to talk to the younger kids about all of the opportunities awaiting them."
Another Hancock teacher said, "The students loved hearing what they had to say about high school sports, dealing with friends, problems, and balancing school and sports. It's a great program and a super idea to engage both the high school and elementary students together."
