Brockton High School Musicians Stand Out in New York City Performances

This past week, the Brockton High School Music Department traveled to New York City to compete in the Heritage Music Festival.  A huge shout out to the Brockton High School Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Wind Ensemble, and Senior Jazz Band, and their directors Matthew Cunningham and Kevin Kardel!  They represented the City of Champions with excellence, earning top honors and showcasing their musical talent on a national stage.

The weekend was filled with standout performances and an impressive list of accolades:

  • Concert Choir – Gold Rating
  • Wind Ensemble – Gold Rating & First Place
  • Senior Jazz Band – Gold Rating, First Place, Outstanding Band, Instrumental Category Sweepstakes Winner
  • Chamber Singers – Gold Rating & Second Place

In addition to group awards, Glenn Overstreet and Michael Giusti, were both honored with the Maestro Award, which is presented to students who display extraordinary musical ability and sensitivity.

Brockton High also received Adjudicator Awards—reserved for groups earning the highest scores from judges—for all four performing ensembles.  All four groups have also received invitations to perform at the 2026 Gold Medal Showcase performances that will take place in either Chicago or Memphis.

The crowning achievement of the weekend was Brockton High School being named the Festival Sweepstakes Winner, the highest overall honor awarded at the festival. This award recognizes the school that brings a full music department and achieves the top combined scores across multiple ensembles.

Brockton High School Music Department continues to demonstrate a tradition of musical excellence, and this year’s festival results highlight the dedication, talent, and hard work of its students and directors.

Mark your calendars for the Brockton High School Pops Concert on May 28 at 7:00 p.m. to see these fabulous students and their directors live on stage!
