This year, Brockton Public Schools is participating in a district review conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in partnership with the American Institutes for Research (AIR). The purpose of the review is to take a closer look at how our schools and district are functioning—from the systems and policies in place to how we support students and families. The final report will be public and will help guide future planning and improvement efforts across the district.
As part of the review process, the review team will conduct classroom visits, interviews, focus groups, and document reviews. We invite parents and caregivers to participate in a family focus group, which provides an opportunity to share your perspectives about your experiences with Brockton Public Schools.
We hope to include voices from families across the district. Interpretation and translation services are outlined in the focus group information document. Families may register using the link provided and select their preferred language when signing up so that interpretation services can be arranged. Each session is approximately 60 minutes.
Focus Group Information
During the focus group, families may be asked to share feedback on topics such as:
- How families receive information about academics and student well-being
- Opportunities for families to participate in school or district decision-making
- Supports available to students and families, both in and out of school
- Access to electives, extracurricular activities, and advanced coursework
- Services for Students with Disabilities, English Learners, and other students who may need additional support
